A potlatch is like a ceremony. Some ceremonies were about if they had a baby,if they had to name a child or for a memorial which is for someone's death. At potlatches there would be a fire. At potlatches there would be drumming, singing, and dancing. At potlatches they would invite all the chiefs the father knew. They would invite all the nobles which are the relatives,so all the wife's brothers and sisters would come. They would invite the whole school as well. They would get lots of cooks for the potlatch. The whole point of a potlatch is giving away,so at a potlatch they would buy gifts for everyone.
In potlatches people celebrate by having a feast. Potlatches are a ceremony to the aboriginals . Families gather up at 1 place and celebrate. In a potlatch people make lots of food. There are lots of people at a potlatch.
The types of the salmon are Pinks, Sockeyes, Chinooks, Chum and Coho. Cohos are in danger because people are mostly catching Cohos. The First Nations people mostly eat salmon. Lots of people fish for salmon. Chinook is the biggest salmon. The biggest predator to salmon is human. People fish in different ways. There are five types of salmon. Button blankets can be slept on. Button blankets represent animals. Button blankets repersent orcas and wolfs and all kinds of those.Button blankets represent people.
I found out that the Coho is in danger. They are in danger because they are passing away and people are eating them. If their population is lower than 250,000 they are extinct. There are 5 types of salmon and they are Pinks, Sockeye, Chinook, Coho and Chum. The Chinook is the biggest salmon. There are up to 1 million Chinook salmon in the world. There are 1 million to 34 million Sockeye salmon and 1 million to 12 million Chum salmon. There are 1 million to 20 million Pinks and 250,000 to 300,000 Coho salmon. If you want to catch a salmon you should 2 fences. 1 small fence and 1 big fence. The salmon will jump over the small fence and get stuck because the big fence is to big for the salmon to jump over. Then take your net and dip it in the water and take salmon out of the water. Then break the fence down so the salmon could get through because if the salmon is stuck in the middle of the fences it will die without food.
Today we did weaving with a teacher. We had partners and my partner was Balkin.the teacher gave us a loon and a wool. Then we started on one side for me and one side for my partner. When we were done with our white wool then we got a gray wool. When I did my first white wool I messed up like once and on the gray wool I messed up like a million times. The teacher told us that old people used plant juice for color. The teacher told us that aboridinal people hunted mountain goat for fur.Aborignal people used mountain goats fur to weave.
Yestrday we did weaving. We made little blankets. We had so much fun but it was a little hard to. The wool used was really fuzzy. My shirt got really hairy. Back when the first nations made wool. First they had to find animal hair. Then they had to spin it with a stick and disc. Then they had to dye it with a natural stuff. And they could make whatever they want.
The first thing you have to do is find mountain goat. Then you take their fur. It takes a really long time to do this. It takes a long time to find the goat. We started with a piece of white wool and a piece of grey wool and a loom. The loom was made of wood and had strings on it. We had to tie the white wool to the first string and then weave the wool in and out until it was all used. Then we tied the white wool to the end string. Then we did the same thing with the grey wool. We then cut the strings at the top and bottom and tied two strings each time with a double knot. There are five tied strings on the top and bottom. Then you are done. Then you have a picture. The last thing is to scrap book it. It was so much fun weaving!
